Juxtapose will be performed on 27 August at the Tanzmesse in Düsseldorf. The internationale tanzmesse is a biennial marketplace and festival platform for communicating and networking in the field of contemporary dance.
‘At the start, two ladies look like two cakes covered in a layer of icing: caricatures of traditional women’s roles in fifties’ clothes and Marilyn Monroe poses, but the perfect images rapidly collapse. Laughter turns to sighs, moans to screams that in turn develop into hysterical exaggerations. The two women constantly throw themselves on the ground only to get to their feet once more – a symbol of the eternal loop of the expectations in which they feel trapped. It is screamingly amusing and gloriously rowdy. And, throws up questions like how do women liberate themselves from female patterns of behaviour. Is the answer to simply become “male“? Can we make ourselves independent of other people’s opinions? I am what I think that you think I am…?’
