Welcome to the shadow side of consumer society. Five performers crawl out of a large waste pile. They throw away things, trash and each other. They become stuff, the stuff is their life. Repetitive hoarding movements and herd behavior alternate. Is it Utopia or have they ended up in hell? They are waiting for something, a redemption, a new world. Can they free themselves from this self-made prison?

Waste Me is a strong commentary on the out-of-control consumer society, a firm plea for reducing consumption and a critical look at how consumerism has changed our psyche, behavior, self-esteem and the appreciation of others around us.

Waste Me DOCUMENTARY

The Waste Me Documentary, created by Paul Sixta, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the research process behind Waste Me by Cecilia Moisio – a theatre and dance performance co-produced by Cecilia Moisio Company and Maas Theater en Dans. The research for Cecilia’s new creations consists of laboratories and interviews with people directly connected to the topic she is working with. It is an integral part of her artistic practice. This approach allows her to stay close to society and current issues, ensuring that her work reflects real struggles and concerns. For Waste Me, she spoke with young people about consumerism, waste, and climate change, gathering personal stories that shaped the performance’s themes and narrative.
In addition to these interviews, the documentary features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the rehearsals and the Waste Me Laboratory – a series of workshops conducted by Moisio and her team with young people from three different areas in Rotterdam. These workshops created a space for direct dialogue with the generation at the heart of the topic, allowing them to express their thoughts, frustrations, and ideas.

The film will be available for the audience along with the performance!
